How can I help?
Working Children in Bangladesh – How Can You Make a Difference?
Throughout Bangladesh millions of children as young as four years old work both inside and outside of their home to help support their families. These children sometimes work 14 or 15 hours a day, and may work in abusive, hazardous or exploitative working environments. They often don’t get the opportunity to go to school, because their families can’t afford either the educational costs or the loss of income that results from the child not working.
SUF provides these children with free education to give them a chance to move into skilled employment. You can help by donating to SUF directly or buying their products from www.infinitycottage.com
The children who do well at free school are directed to the Bright Girls and Boys Project, to find sponsorship to pay for Formal school.
The Bright Girls and Boys
This project provides formal education opportunities to working children in Bangladesh and pays for all educational costs. The project is run by the Society of Underprivileged Families (SUF). This project provides an opportunity for these children and their families to escape the cycle of poverty and exploitation. Students who show academic ability and a desire to continue their education are eligible for the project. It is then just a matter of finding a sponsor to fund their education.
